The concept behind the micro folding scooter is that of Wim Ouboter from Switzerland who created the idea and production started in 1999 in China of Micro and Razor scooters. Basically the models were the same, however the brand Micro was available throughout Europe whereas the Razor was the brand as sold in USA. Much was the success of this scooter the manufacturers went on to develop and improve the original concept and thus created the JD Bug, the 2nd Generation Folding Scooter. The scooter was improved with the knowledge gained over the previous months and included the extended footplate, matt finish aluminium, improved folding mechanism (including rake screw), multi mount clip, shoulder strap and improved brake system. The other main defining improvement that was made was the decision to make the Bug available in various colour options rather that just the original black trim. This decision saw the Bug available in Blue, Red, Orange and Green trim. As the scooter phenomenon increased week on week through 2000 there were more and more copy, cheaper versions becoming available, which were of much inferior quality to that of the Bug and a lot of them were made of steel rather than aluminium which defeated the object of the product as it was so much heavier than the Bug. As with all crazes the retail price of the Bug has reduced over the years from that seen at its first release of £99.99 to a now fantastic £44.99. Still the same high quality product that is known and recognised as the safest scooter available in the UK.
